Harshada Gauns | Founder President

Harshada Gauns is a trained Zoologist with six years of experience in conducting and implementing biodiversity-based research and three years working closely with the communities in Goa, working on creating biodiversity management plans for leading business houses in Goa and on solid waste management at village level. Harshada has worked with the Centre for Environment Education, Mineral Foundation of Goa in the past and is the current Hon. Vice President of Goa Bird Conservation Network. She has engaged with students of more than 50 schools across Goa during her career, taking the message of nature, environment, conservation and sustainable living to them. Harshada is currently engaged as Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Harmal, Goa, and heads AERO as its Hon. President.

Shayeesh Pirankar | Vice President

Shayeesh Pirankar is a trained Zoologist with three years of working experience in the field of local community engagement, biodiversity documentation and environmental science research. He has engaged with students from more than 20 schools across Goa during his career taking the message of nature, bird conservation and sustainable development to them. Shayeesh has worked with Tripura Foundation Builds Hope and Mineral Foundation of Goa in the past and is currently engaged as City Associate with ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability and manages their Goa based operations, working in close association with the Goa State Biodiversity Board. Shayeesh is the Hon. Vice President of AERO and is an instructor at the Research and Education Division of AERO.

Jalmesh Karapurkar | Secretary

Jalmesh Karapurkar is a trained Zoologist with working experience in the field of biodiversity documentation and environmental science research. His current work involves implementing research projects for the Research and Education Division of AERO. Jalmesh has core competency in Field Biology and Database Management, handling's public communications and online resource networks.

Gaitri Naik | Joint Secretary

Gaitri Naik is trained Zoologist with working experience in the field of biology and zoology teaching in the formal education sector in Goa. Her core strengths are in environment education and science teaching with a focus on zoology. Her forays into wildlife started as a bird watcher and she has conducted academic investigations on wetland birds of Carambolim IBA in the past. Gaitri is engaged as Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Harmal, Goa and currently handles AERO's nature outreach camps.

Mayur Gawas | Treasurer

Mayur Gawas is a trained Zoologist with working experience in the field of biodiversity documentation and environmental science research. He has worked with Mineral Foundation of Goa in the past and is currently working at AERO, implementing research projects for the Research & Education Division. Mayur has core competency in Field Biology and is a trained naturalist. He heads most of AERO's outdoor activities, that are organised for students and manages AERO's finances.

 

AERO - Research & Education


 

Pronoy Baidya | Division Coordinator

Pronoy Baidya is a trained Ecologist and Field Biologist with a decade of research experience. He has developed core competency in the field of ecology, biodiversity, ornithology, ant taxonomy, cartography and research methods teaching. Pronoy has been engaging with students across India for the past five years, teaching them subjects ranging from Plant-Animal Interactions, Statistics and GIS for Biologists at University level to simple engagements with students at primary school level. He is the Wetlands International's Asian Waterbird Census Coordinator for Goa, eBird Reviewer/Editor for Goa, referee for Indian Birds Journal and is on the board of Goa Bird Conservation Network. Pronoy has done several environment projects for various industries in Goa and has worked on several projects with the Goa Forest Department. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.

Akshatra Pracy Fernandes | Botanist & Nature Educator

Akshatra is a trained Botanist with specialisation in plant taxonomy. She is one of the few talented field taxonomists in Goa with an expertise of identifying herbs in the field. Akshatra has experience of working on biodiversity assessment projects in the past and has done several outreach and education activitie in various schools across Goa. She is currently engaged as Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Shree Mallikarjun College, Canacona, Goa

 

Vighnesh Shinde | Outreach & Nature Educator

Vighnesh specialises in interacting with school students and reaching out to them in order to give rise to a more aware future society, for we believe that children are the change makers. With a bachelor's in Zoology and more than five years of working experience in the field of biodiversity documentation with specialisation in studying Odonates, Vighnesh makes every classroom engagement that Arannya takes up, a fun learning experience for children. Being an accomplished theatre performer, he brings to his outreach classroom a mixed package of experience, making our outreach initiatives truly unique.

 

 

AERO - Content & Media


 

Shivcharan Gauns | Content & Media Coordinator

Shivcharan is our technology wiz who manages all our digital content requirements, including developing audio and video content for our various outreach activities. Besides being formally trained in computer applications, he is also an upcoming digital music producer from Goa and an accomplished miniature replica photographer.

Position : Project Assistants

Description : Project Assistant for an Environment and Waste Management Project in a village of North Goa.

Duration : 14 Months

Qualifications :

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences and basic knowledge on Biodiversity.
  2. Knowledge of waste management practices.
  3. Good oral communication and and writing skills (Konkani and English).
  4. Commitment to high standards and capable of working both in independent and team setups.
  5. Possesses and rides a with a driving license.
  6. Possesses a laptop and has basic MS-Word and MS-Excel knowledge.
