Great Backyard Bird Count - 2024

On February 18th, AERO organized two sessions as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) 2024. The first session took place with the Aldeia Sustainability Group, where participants engaged in a biodiversity trail focused on coastal birds, molluscs, and coastal habitats. AERO served as the knowledge partner for this event, facilitating discussions on sustainability and addressing pertinent environmental issues.

The session provided an opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in nature while learning about the diverse wildlife found in coastal areas. Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, attendees gained insights into the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices.

In the second session, AERO conducted the GBBC at Maina-Raia wetland, contributing to a global effort to raise awareness about bird conservation and gather data on avian populations. Participants were actively involved in birdwatching activities, observing and documenting various bird species present in the wetland habitat.

Both sessions were instrumental in promoting environmental awareness and fostering a deeper connection with nature. By actively participating in the GBBC, participants not only contributed to valuable scientific research but also gained a greater appreciation for the natural world and the importance of conservation efforts.
