On February 2nd, AERO joined hands with various organizations including Wetlands International South Asia, the Goa Forest Department, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to celebrate World Wetlands Day in Goa. The event took place at two important wetland sites in Goa, known as Important Bird Areas (IBAs).
Students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity and eagerness to learn about the wetland ecosystems. Their active involvement served as a source of motivation for the AERO team, reinforcing their commitment to environmental conservation.
The event wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Goa Forest Department, particularly the Assistant Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) and Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW), Shri Umakant, along with other forest department officials. The cooperation of local Panchayats and Biodiversity Management Committees was also instrumental in organizing the celebration. Special thanks were extended to the Sarpanch of Navelim, Shri Kalidas Gauns, and the BMC chairperson of Carambolim, Shri Devanand Kawlekar, for their guidance and support.
The event also received support from various schools in the region, including Madkaikar Navchaitanya High School, Sunandabai High School, Navelim Government High School, and Mahalaxmi High School in Kudnem. Their participation contributed to the success of the World Wetlands Day celebration, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in environmental conservation.
